As a hard-core, never TNG (well, that one episode with the flute), ST TOS forever fan, born in the mid-60s, I've just never been able to "get" TNG's comparatively touchy-feely "Lt. Mood Watch to the bridge" and "Weasely saves the ship!" ethos.

But this helped put it in context (your generation's, not mine), and I can appreciate that.
