Perhaps, but where would one get the content?

The music industry not only makes more or less the same content available on different platforms, it has removed the digital rights management (DRM) encryption from music that is purchased and downloaded.

Movies and TV? Not so much. And in the U.S. they've lobbied the government to make even attempting to get around this encryption a Federal crime (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) with stiff penalties of up to $250,000 in fines and five years in prison.
