Oh, cool. Lemme clear those concerns up for you.
I don’t believe he IS coming back (see, prefacing things we BELIEVE keeps it clear to ourselves and others that we don’t actually KNOW).
What we do know is that believing that we’ll get a magical do-over enables people to keep driving SUVs and scarfing down “endless” shrimp as if none of this really matters. But we see every day in the ever-worsening deluge, famine, inferno, blizzard cycle that it does. What if you’re wrong?
If he’s not coming back, it doesn’t really matter how many will pass on without becoming (in my humble opinion) similarly deluded. In any case, your own scriptures pretty strongly state that whether they do or don’t doesn’t involve you. “Dead in our sins” would preclude the ability to act on our own behalf … right? And “sola fide” means that crediting oneself with one’s own salvation is heresy … right?
Liberal/conservative rhetoric doesn’t matter … until it results in attempts to overthrow our government — something only “conservative” Republicans have done. So it’s not JUST rhetoric, is it?
You BELIEVE that heaven and hell are eternal. Many don’t believe they exist at all. So in a democratic country that is not (yet) a theocracy, we can’t really make policy based on that.
Given all of that, would it be unreasonable to prevail upon you to make better choices just in case your imaginary friend doesn’t actually show up? Awesome. Thanks!
