I'm very sorry that you had a bad experience with someone who was a mentor in name only. But the problem is not the name.

And calling someone who actually does the things a mentor should do an "interpreter" because the term "mentor" has left a bad taste in your mouth isn't a solution.

Your "if I ever need a mentor" conclusions are quite correct, but muddying the terminology waters isn't helpful.
