Google did NOT build their search engine "by scanning books from libraries across the U.S."

In 1996 Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Scott Hassan built "web crawler" software that followed web page links and indexed the information on the worldwide web. They then added the concept of ranking to present the results most relevant to any user's search.

Yes, Google has done plenty of sketchy stuff, but could we please get our basic facts straight? Thanks.
